Kevin Sumlin is the head coach of the Houston Gamblers, bringing more than two decades of college coaching experience to the UFL. A Purdue alum who played linebacker for the Boilermakers in the late 1980s, Sumlin worked his way up through assistant roles at Wyoming, Washington State, Minnesota, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma before landing his first head-coaching job.
Sumlin took over at the University of Houston in 2008 and went 35–17 over four seasons, running one of the nation's most prolific passing offenses behind quarterback Case Keenum. That success earned him the head job at Texas A&M in 2012, where his first season produced one of the most memorable years in college football: freshman Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy and the Aggies finished 11–2 with a Cotton Bowl win. Sumlin spent six seasons in College Station before a three-year stint at Arizona.
Known for his up-tempo, quarterback-friendly system, Sumlin returns to Houston — this time in the pros — looking to turn the Gamblers into a UFL contender.
