Rick Neuheisel takes over the Dallas Renegades after one of the more distinctive careers in modern football: Rose Bowl winning quarterback, Power Five head coach, and one of the sport's most familiar broadcast voices. A former walk-on at UCLA, Neuheisel was named MVP of the 1984 Rose Bowl before embarking on a coaching career that included assistant stops at UCLA and with the San Francisco 49ers.
Neuheisel was named head coach at Colorado in 1995 and went 33–14 over four seasons with the Buffaloes before taking over at Washington, where he led the Huskies to a Rose Bowl victory following the 2000 season. He later returned to his alma mater as UCLA's head coach from 2008 to 2011, compiling more than 85 career wins as a college head coach across three programs. Between stops he spent more than a decade as a lead college football analyst for CBS Sports and the Pac-12 Network.
At Dallas, Neuheisel brings a combination of offensive creativity, Power Five head-coaching experience, and the kind of program-building pedigree the Renegades hope will reshape the franchise.
