High Scoring vs Competive well played games

4th&Long
I totally get the desire for high scoring games... but I don't want non-existent defense like Arena FB. The game last night was 70 points - 44-26. Did all that scoring make it better to watch? Not IMO. Add to that ridiculous officiating where they can't call a personal foul without what seemed like an eternity of refs talking on the field. Mike R is right that more scoring is exciting. And rule changes like only 1 foot in bounds aka (College rule) vs NFL 2 feet makes total sense. The XFL had. I wanted it in UFL we now have it. Moving to the USFL PAT rules was also an improvement (they also moved up the 3pt attempt which imo should be even more so - 6yd line). The 60 pt field goal is gimmicky but cool. As is the no punt rule inside the 50yd line. This can all lead to more scores. BUT... You still want a competitive game and Defense is half the game. And I think that so far they haven't really hurt the Def so i'm ok. In fact going for it at the opponent 49yd line on 4th helps the D give their team a chance for good field position. HOWEVER, it all comes down to good play. Having 3 novice coaches may be pushing it. We saw a good game on opening w/e with Birm at LK and Columbus played ok at Orlando. But as the teams gel, will the experience rise to the top? I'm concerned with Ted G in Columbus - not just him but his DC - also a novice. I hope the 9 day gap to week3 allows Columbus to improve. The way TG was talking at the post game, sounds like this issues presented themselves in practice too. There's D problems in Columbus. Is there a point where league steps in with advice or hiring someone to assist?
