One of the most intriguing matchups of the 2026 UFL season comes in Week 3, as it is a battle between two teams that are 1-1 on the season: the Houston Gamblers and the DC Defenders.
Both teams are coming off their first wins of the season. The Gamblers nailed a game-winning field goal as time expired to upset the Birmingham Stallions 22-20. As for DC, the Defenders had an easier time as they blew out the Columbus Aviators 44-26.
This is an important game for both teams as they try to maintain the season's momentum with wins. Who will have the advantage in this one?

What to Watch for: Houston Gamblers
The quarterback position is in a rough spot right now for the Gamblers, as they released Donovan Smith before the season and are now dealing with injuries to Hunter Dekkers and Nolan Henderson. Dekkers appears to be out, and Henderson is doubtful to play, which could open the door for Taulia Tagovailoa to make his first start in the UFL with only two weeks of experience in this offense and his backup being arena football star Sam Castronova, who was just signed a few days ago.
That will put more pressure on running backs Marcus Yarns and Jalen White to help the Gamblers' offense out. The two combined for 36 carries for 136 yards and one touchdown last week versus the Stallions, so the rushing attack is at least in a good spot to help out.
While the Gamblers' secondary is in a good place with Carlton Johnson there as their big playmaker, all eyes are on the front seven to step up. Birmingham was held to 3.4 yards per carry against this Houston front, and they will need more of that against the leading rusher in the UFL.
What to Watch for: DC Defenders
Speaking of the UFL's leading rusher, Deon Jackson is coming off the best rushing performance of the season with 97 yards and three touchdowns on the Aviators' defense. Sitting at 154 yards and four touchdowns on the year, Jackson is going to have to do it again and help this offense that has almost lost the ability to pass on a consistent basis.
Jordan Ta'amu has been really quiet through the first two weeks of the season, with just 222 yards and one touchdown to three interceptions on the year. Seth Williams is already out at receiver, so the Defenders need someone like Cornell Powell or Ty Scott to make some plays to get this passing game back into rhythm.
DC's defense has some playmakers, but the secondary really has a chance to feast with essentially a rookie starting at quarterback for Houston. Watch for defenders like Sam Kidd and Deandre Baker to take advantage and create some much-needed turnovers.
Gamblers-Defenders Prediction
Houston showed the UFL last week that they are not the horrible team everyone predicted them to be at the beginning of the season; this is a competitive football team that can win games. This DC team, though, won the title last year and got back a lot of its key pieces. With the top two quarterbacks on the roster, this is an uphill battle for the Gamblers to face.
DC Defenders 25, Houston Gamblers 13
