The Battlehawks are making big changes at the quarterback position going into week seven, and for the sake of the UFL's most popular franchise hopefully it's made just in time for a postseason push. On Wednesday afternoon, Head Coach Ricky Proehl announced that team has made the decision to start Luis Perez for their week seven matchup against the Columbus Aviators.
Proehl's switch to Perez is the third quarterback change this season, with the team going from Brandon Silvers to Harrison Frost to now Perez. Proehl stated that the decision was "tough", but due to his preparation and his communication with the team it prompted the change. Proehl also stated that the team was leaving plays on the field, and that if the team wanted to make a run Perez can give that juice.
When asked about making his first start Perez stated he was looking forward to "letting his preparation do the talking". Perez stated "he feels good" about the chemistry and connection being built with veteran receivers like Hakeem Butler.
Perez goes into week seven with plenty of experience as the Battlehawks look to strengthen their claim on a playoff spot for the 2026 UFL season. Perez who is known throughout spring football as the "spring king" will now start for his seventh spring football franchise. The Harlon Hill trophy winner has thrown for 9,968 yards, and 60 touchdowns in his spring football career, that includes a 2023 XFL championship with the Dallas Renegades.
St. Louis takes on the Columbus Aviators Friday at 8:00pm (ET), at The Dome at The America's Center.
