The Birmingham Stallions had a successful Week 1 of the 2026 season, but that doesn't mean head coach A.J. McCarron isn't going to improve his roster in anyway.
According to the UFL Communication Department's X page, the Stallions released defensive tackle Isaiah Coe from the team. They did replace him with defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey.
Coe was listed as inactive for last week's 15-13 win over the Louisville Kings in Week 1. Winfrey returns to the Stallions after racking up 29 tackles, four pass breakups, two tackle for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble in 10 games. He was named as a 2025 All-UFL Team selection and was signed by the Dallas Cowboys after the season ended.
Birmingham Stallions add DT Perrion Winfrey to roster
The rich certainly got richer for the Stallions as they add a great talent in Winfrey to a defensive line that is already dominate. Birmingham allowed just 46 yards on the ground against the Kings, leaving some to wonder how McCarron is going to handle trying to get all these talented tackles in the game.
Much of the glory went to the edge rushers and linebackers on the Stallions, but guys like Ricky Correia and Amani Bledsoe were the unsung heroes in the middle that was not allowing Kings running back Benny Snell to have any success up the middle. Louisville had a staggeringly low 2.9 yards per carry on the ground in the loss to the Stallions.
It will be interesting to see how McCarron is going to handle the rotation at defensive tackle as there's no way they can leave Winfrey off the field since he's proven to be an NFL talent. There's a chance that Winfrey may not get as many snaps on the field since he is just coming back, but he should at least be in the rotation.
Birmingham will have a chance to show Winfrey off on the field as the Stallions are set to face the Houston Gamblers on the road in Week 2.
