Every Dallas Renegades fan is working through the massive roster change, as they inherited the Houston Gamblers' old roster after Kevin Sumlin moved over as part of the league's team relocations.
That leaves the Renegades with big questions about what to expect after the Gamblers went 4-6 and barely missed the postseason. Early in the offseason, the team added a few new names to the quarterback room, which raises more questions. T.J. Finley was signed from one of the showcases, and the Renegades traded for Emory Jones.
According to the Renegades' official roster page, that makes five quarterbacks on the roster for now. That will most likely get reduced before training camp begins. Just for fun, though, let's break down all the signal-callers on the team and decide who has the best chance of being the starter in 2027.
Dallas Renegades' QB Room Entering 2027 UFL Season
Hunter Dekkers
Dekkers was arguably the best and most consistent quarterback on the Gamblers last year. He played in five games and started four, completing 61.6% of his passes for 749 yards and three touchdowns to two interceptions. Dekkers also rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Among the Renegades' quarterbacks, Dekkers is the favorite to win the job. The New Orleans Saints were so impressed with him that he spent time in their training camp in August.
Nolan Henderson
Henderson is one of the more athletic quarterbacks on the roster with his ability to run and throw the ball. Last year, he passed for 447 yards and two interceptions, while rushing for 101 yards and one touchdown in five games.
Henderson has a lot of speed, and he does his best work when he is on the run and throwing the ball. He is more than likely still fighting for a starting job, but QB2 could be realistic.
John Rhys Plumlee
Another great athletic quarterback the Renegades have is Plumlee, who showed some promise in the four games he played for the Gamblers. He threw for 295 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions, while rushing for 118 yards (the most for a Houston QB) and one touchdown.
Plumlee will be in the conversation as well since he can throw on the run, but he'll need to improve his decision-making and accuracy if he wants to make the roster. The promise is there, but it's too soon for him to be a full-time starter. If Dallas wanted to get creative, he could be a great gadget player.
T.J. Finley
Finley has been quite the journeyman in his football career in college, playing for five colleges. He completed 63% of his passes for 7,372 yards and 43 touchdowns to 27 interceptions.
His 6-foot-7 frame is intriguing as a prospect, and he has played in many different systems, showing he can adapt to any scheme. He proved himself enough for the Renegades to bring him in after he played in the Atlanta UFL Showcase.
Emory Jones
The Renegades gave up All-UFL defensive back Kary Vincent Jr. to acquire Jones from the Louisville Kings, so Sumlin must think highly of him. Jones was an undrafted rookie who spent the last two years on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad.
Dallas may see something special in Jones, as he is a great dual-threat quarterback who can run and throw the ball. He may need to work on accuracy, but he is fast and has a great arm, so he can make all the throws.
Who Will Start at QB for the Dallas Renegades in 2027?
There might be room to add another QB, but Dallas seems to have plenty of room for now. The common denominator is that they're all athletic, which will help keep one of the league's best rushing attacks going.
More likely than not, one or two of these quarterbacks get cut before UFL training camp gets underway. Probably more likely to be released before the UFL Draft in a few weeks.
Dekkers has to be the clear-cut favorite to start for the team in 2027. Jones might be the surprise of the group, since the team gave up one of the best defensive backs in the UFL to get him.
This is going to be an interesting training camp battle, with two or three guys realistically in the conversation for the starting job. For Renegades fans who went through the shocker of Austin Reed beating out Luis Perez last season, it could end up being the same situation in 2027.
