With both the UFL and NFL in their offseason lulls, it's the perfect time to dive into some offseason content. As the UFL awaits the next wave of NFL signings for the 2026 player acquisition cycle, we're taking a look back at how each NFL team has utilized spring football as a developmental pipeline during the modern era of spring football since 2022. We continue the series with the Los Angeles Rams, highlighting every spring league player the organization has signed over the past four years.
2022 Cycle:
Fresh off a Super Bowl victory in 2021, the 2022 Rams called on the USFL to supplement their roster due to numerous injuries throughout the season. Originally the team signed the Spring King QB Luis Perez (New Jersey Generals) for a training camp cameo, along with claiming DT TJ Carter (Michigan Panthers) after he was waived by the Saints during training camp of 2022. Carter would appear in two games for the Rams due to injuries in 2022, remaining with the team until 2023 at the conclusion of training camp.
The Rams would see 15 players on their team finish the season on injured reserve prompting a barrage of signings of players with USFL ties. QB Case Cookus (Philadelphia Stars) signed with the team on November 23rd, WR Lance Lenoir (Michigan Panthers) signed on December 22nd, and P Brock Miller (New Jersey Generals) signed on December 27th. All three players would not have their contracts renewed for 2023, leaving Carter the on “modern” spring football player on the roster moving forward.
2023 Cycle:
The 2023 cycle would see the Rams not sign any players from the XFL or USFL during training camp. The team would sign three players in total from the class over the last couple of years. P Brandon Wright (Memphis Showboats) would spend a week on the Rams practice squad serving an emergency option before his release during September of 2023, as well as LS Alex Matheson (St. Louis Battlehawks) serving in the same capacity during December of 2023.
The Rams would sign Defensive Lineman Jack Heflin (Houston Roughnecks) in late 2024, and during the 2025 season on their practice squad. Heflin would appear in one game with the Rams, and has since signed with the Jets for the 2026 season.
2024 Cycle:
After utilizing spring football to supplement their team for the previous two seasons, the Rams would sign offensive lineman for depth in Matt Kaskey (Birmingham Stallions) and Alec Lindstrom (Memphis Showboats). Unfortunately, both players would be released during training camp failing to make the team.
2025 Cycle:
The Rams would sign a familiar face in QB Dresser Winn (Memphis Showboats) who spent parts of the previous seasons with the team. Winn would be released at the conclusion of training camp and would sign with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.
The Rams would go on to sign Kicker Harrison Mevis (Birmingham Stallions), who would replace incumbent Joshua Karty. Mevis would make his debut with the team several days after signing on the practice squad, eventually securing the starting kicker position. Mevis in 9 games went 12/13 on FGs, and 39/39 on extra points.
The Rams have been one of the more effective teams when it comes to investing in spring football talent. Prior to 2022, the team had rostered QB John Wolford (AAF) and OL Jeremiah Kolone (AAF) both spent years on the team earning Super Bowl rings with the team in 2021.
In total the Rams have signed twelve players to contracts since 2022 from spring football teams, with Mevis, Jack Heflin, and T.J. Carter all appeared in games along with a total of seven players earning roster spots.
The Rams have yet to sign any players from the 2026 signing cycle which is expected to resume during the last week of July.
