With both the UFL and NFL in their offseason lulls, it's the perfect time to dive into some offseason content. As the UFL awaits the next wave of NFL signings for the 2026 player acquisition cycle, we're taking a look back at how each NFL team has utilized spring football as a developmental pipeline during the modern era of spring football since 2022. We continue the series with the Seattle Seahawks, highlighting every spring league player the organization has signed over the past four years.
2022 Cycle:
With the return of the USFL, the Seahawks would sign Jameson Houston (Michigan Panthers) who in turn would be released by the team at the conclusion of training camp. Houston would join the XFL in 2023, having stints with Vegas Vipers, and San Antonio Brahmas.
2023 Cycle:
In 2023, the Seahawks would find a bit more success with their class after a lone 2022 signing. While Liam Ryan (D.C. Defenders), Sal Cannella (Arlington Renegades) and Jordan Ferguson (Memphis Showboats) all were released at the conclusion of training camp; the team did retain several players from the signing class.
Levi Bell (Michigan Panthers), Austin Faoliu (Seattle Sea Dragons), and Matthew Gotel (San Antonio Brahmas) all would have stints with the team between the 2023 and 2024 season. Bell would spend the entire 2023 season on the Seahawks practice squad, before his release and return to the Michigan Panthers in the 2024 season.
Faoliu would spend the 2023 season with Seattle, appearing in two games for the franchise, before returning to the UFL in 2024. Gotel would spend 2023 with the Seahawks on their practice squad, and part of 2024 before his return to the San Antonio Brahmas in 2025.
2024 Cycle:
Post USFL-XFL Merger the Seahawks would sign three players from the newly formed UFL. RB Ricky Person (Birmingham Stallions) would be released in July, while Marcus Simms (Michigan Panthers) would be waived with an injury settlement. WR Ty Scott (D.C. Defenders), would spend a week with Seattle on their practice squad before his release.
2025 Cycle:
The Seahawks did not sign any players from the 2025 NFL to UFL signing cycle.
While the Seahawks have brought in ten spring league players over the last four years, the on-field impact has been somewhat marginal for the franchise. As organizations across the league prepare for training camp, the next wave of UFL players are expected to find their way onto professional rosters during the last week of July.
