A former spring football quarterback is coming out of retirement for one more opportunity at football. Former NFL and USFL Quarterback Kyle Lauletta has been signed by the Jacksonville Sharks of the IFL per their press release. Lauletta who took to social media in 2023 to announce his retirement looks to join Paxton Lynch of the Colorado Spartans (National Arena League) of quarterbacks looking to jump back into professional football.
Lauletta was selected by the New York Giants during the 4th round of the 2018 NFL draft. He appeared in two games in 2018, before being released by New York at the conclusion of training camp in 2019. Lauletta would spend time with the Eagles, Falcons, Browns, and Jaguars before his release from Cleveland in 2022.
Lauletta would then be drafted by the USFL's Pittsburgh Maulers in 2022, starting two games (appearing in four) for the Pittsburgh before joining the New Jersey Generals via waivers, starting three games. In nine games throughout his USFL career Lauletta threw for almost 700 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, while rushing 43, adding one touchdown on the ground.
Lauletta will look to earn the starting job for the Sharks who leaned on Valdosta State alum Sammy Edwards, while rostering Shea Spencer out of the NAIA University Keiser, and Matt Considine from Wake Forest. Jacksonville looks to improve on their 2026 which saw them earn an 11-6 record, while losing to the Tulsa Oilers in the first round of the IFL playoffs.
