It has been a long four weeks of training camp for the UFL, but the day finally arrived for the Houston Gamblers to make their final roster cutdowns.
The Gamblers were one of the eight teams that had to trim the roster down to 50 players one week before the regular season begins. Here are the 15 players from Houston that did not make the final roster, according to UFL insider James Larsen:
Julian Hicks, WR
Kobe Hudson, WR
Caeleb Bass, TE
Cam Carter, OT
Dom Boyd, OG
Dohnovan West, OG/C
Ikenna Enechukwu, DL
Lonnie Phelps, DE
Matt Harmon, DE
Gilber Edmond, DE
Solomon Deshields, LB
Keenan Isaac, CB
Zy Alexander, CB

Breaking down Houston Gamblers' 15 players that were cut
Some of the focus on the surprises come from the offensive line with players like Cam Carter and Dohnovan West who have started multiple games in the UFL. This is a great sign for Houston fans about how good this offensive line can be with two really good spring football linemen could not make the roster.
On the defensive side of the ball, it's the secondary that gets a lot of attention with guys like Keenan Isaac and Avery Young not making the team. Isaac had two interceptions last season with Houston, so he might be the most stunning name on this list while Young played last year with the Battlehawks.
Even the defensive line took a massive hit with having to cut guys like Lonnie Phelps and Ikenna Enechukwu not making the team. Phelps had four tackles for loss and two sacks with the San Antonio Brahmas last year while Enechukwu had experience within Gamblers defensive coordinator Marvin Sanders' scheme after their time with the then-Arlington Renegades last year, racking up nine tackles and a sack last year with them and the Brahmas.
Gamblers head coach Kevin Sumlin alluded to this during training camp that there were going to be some tough decisions made regarding the roster and the list of cutdowns certainly showed. With the tough part now over, the Gamblers can move forward with preparing to play the Dallas Renegades in Week 1.
