UFL co-owner and managing partner Mike Repole posted a recap of his first year with the league on X, laying out expansion targets that include two new teams in 2028, ten total franchises, and a goal of 16 teams by 2034.
Repole marked the anniversary of his investment in the league with a list of what changed in 2026.
"One year ago, I became a major investor, partner and managing partner of the @TheUFL. What a great f$&king year!!!!! New teams. New cities. New coaches. New rules. Bigger crowds. Increased viewership. Incredible plays, more innovation and the four-point field goal!!!!!"
He also floated a name for the league's four-point field goal rule.
"Maybe I should call the 4 point FG the Repolian!!!!!"
Expansion Plans Through 2034
Repole gave specific numbers on where the UFL is headed.
"We will continue to look for the right market, the right passionate fans and the right venue!!!! Two new teams in 2028. Ten total teams. A goal of 16 by 2034!!!!!"
The UFL currently fields eight teams. Two additions in 2028 would bring the league to ten. Reaching 16 by 2034 would require six more beyond that.
Repole said planning is underway.
"We are already working on the plans for the 2027 and 2028 seasons."
Credit to Partners and Fans
Repole named the groups he credited for the season.
"I could not be prouder of our players, coaches, football operations team, business team, all employees, RedBird Capital, FOX, ESPN, our sponsors and, most importantly, our LOYAL FANS."
The 2027 Promise
Repole framed 2026 as a starting point rather than a finish line.
"2026 was a great building year. I'm Happy but NOT content. We are going to continue taking chances, thinking differently, challenging the status quo and building this league the right way for the future. I promise you 2027 will be far greater than 2026."
He closed by asking fans for input.
"Feel to keep sharing your thoughts, ideas and feedback!!!!! Any new thoughts??? Let's keep building together!!!!!"
Shot at Horse Racing
Repole, who owns Repole Stable and has been a longtime critic of horse racing's governing structure, used the post to compare the two sports.
"Horse Racing leadership give me the keys to the sport, I've done more in the UFL in one year than horse racing industry has done the last 25 years!!!!!"
What's Next
The UFL wrapped its 2026 season on June 13, when the Louisville Kings beat the DC Defenders 27-20 in the United Bowl. The league has already announced Oklahoma City as a 2028 expansion market. Repole's post confirms a second 2028 team is planned but does not name a market.
