Orlando Storm Add CB Nate Brooks, Place CB Lamar Jackson on Injured Reserve

For the second week in a row, the Orlando Storm's defense has taken a hit with an injury to one of its defensive starters. This week, Orlando lost cornerback Lamar Jackson for the next several weeks, and the Storm have placed Jackson on the Injured Reserve list. Therefore, the Orlando defense has an immediate need for another quality defensive back to fill in for Jackson. Following the trend of the offseason, Orlando head coach Anthony Becht continues to lean on players that he has direct experience with from his time serving as the head coach of the Saint Louis Battlehawks. The latest former Battlehawks player to join the Storm roster is cornerback Nate Brooks. Brooks brings a wealth of professional football experience, including time in the USFL and two seasons in the UFL. The UFL announced the addition of Lamar Jackson to the Injured Reserve list and the signing of cornerback Nate Brooks.

Cornerback Nate Brooks, a 6'0", 198-pound native of Whitehouse, Texas, has spent time on the practice squads of several NFL teams. He was on the active roster for the Miami Dolphins in 2019 and the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. With the Dolphins, he played 3 games, recording 10 solo tackles and 1 assist. In 2020, Brooks appeared in 1 game for the Ravens but did not record any stats. In 2023, Brooks played cornerback for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL and helped them win their second consecutive USFL championship. He went on to assist the Stallions in capturing the first UFL championship during the 2024 season, also earning a spot on the All-UFL team for his performance. In 2025, Brooks spent time with the Michigan Panthers before joining the Saint Louis Battlehawks practice squad for the rest of the season.

During his professional football career, Brooks has demonstrated elite ball skills and the ability to be a ball hawk in a defensive secondary. Brooks has elite lateral speed and agility, and he can play several roles on defense. In the past, Brooks has struggled with injuries, but he is joining the Storm after not playing an active role in 2025. Brooks struggles to keep up with opposing receivers who are legitimate vertical threats in the passing game.
