A rookie season defined by takeaways, touchdowns and game-changing plays has earned Yahsyn McKee Sr. the IFL’s highest individual defensive honor.
Arizona Rattlers defensive back Yahsyn McKee Sr. capped an outstanding first season in the Indoor Football League by earning 2026 IFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.
McKee filled the stat sheet throughout the regular season, recording 64 tackles, a league-leading 11 interceptions, 14 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns, giving Arizona a defender capable of changing the game in a single play.
At the center of McKee's season was his ability to take the football away. His 11 interceptions led the IFL, while his 14 pass breakups consistently challenged opposing quarterbacks and limited opportunities through the air. He paired that production in coverage with a strong presence around the football, contributing in multiple areas of the Rattlers' defense.
His performance helped Arizona make a late-season push before carrying that momentum into the postseason. The Rattlers entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and earned road victories over Vegas and San Diego to advance to the 2026 IFL National Championship.
The award adds another honor to a remarkable debut season for McKee, who was also named the 2026 IFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. In one season, McKee went from IFL newcomer to one of the most decorated defensive players in the league.
