After leading Green Bay to back-to-back IFL National Championship appearances, two-time Coach of the Year Corey Roberson is taking over in New Mexico.
The New Mexico Chupacabras have named Corey Roberson as the team's new head coach, bringing a two-time IFL Coach of the Year and one of the league's most successful coaches in recent seasons to New Mexico.
Roberson joins the Chupacabras after spending seven seasons as head coach of the Green Bay Blizzard, culminating in back-to-back IFL National Championship appearances in 2025 and 2026. He was named IFL Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2024 during his tenure in Green Bay.
Roberson took over as Green Bay's head coach in 2019 and immediately helped change the direction of the franchise. In his first season at the helm, he guided the Blizzard to their first playoff appearance in seven seasons, while Green Bay finished the year with the league's top scoring defense.
The Blizzard continued to develop into one of the IFL's top teams under Roberson. In 2024, Green Bay earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and captured its first playoff victory in more than a decade, earning Roberson his second IFL Coach of the Year honor.
In 2025, Roberson guided Green Bay to its first IFL National Championship appearance in franchise history, continuing the Blizzard's rise among the league's top teams.
The success continued in 2026, as Green Bay earned the No. 1 overall seed and advanced to the IFL National Championship for the second consecutive season.
Defense became a staple of Roberson's teams throughout his tenure. The Blizzard finished among the top five in the IFL in fewest points allowed three times over his final five seasons, including twice leading the league.
Roberson's history with Green Bay extends well beyond his seven seasons as head coach. He originally joined the Blizzard coaching staff as an assistant in 2012 and remained in that role through 2018 before taking over the program.
Prior to coaching, Roberson spent nine seasons playing professional indoor football as a defensive back, giving him more than two decades of experience in the indoor game as both a player and coach.
After helping transform Green Bay into a perennial contender and leading the Blizzard to consecutive championship appearances, Roberson now heads to New Mexico to begin the next chapter of his coaching career with the Chupacabras.
