The Fishers Freight are making moves for 2027, retaining Head Coach and General Manager Dixie Wooten and adding veteran coach Rod Miller to lead the defense.
The Fishers Freight are building their coaching staff for the 2027 season, announcing a one-year contract extension for Head Coach and General Manager Dixie Wooten and the addition of veteran indoor football coach Rod Miller as Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach.
Wooten will remain at the helm of the Freight after leading the organization through the first two seasons in franchise history. Since arriving in Fishers, he has helped build the football operation from the ground up and establish the foundation for the young franchise.
An accomplished coach throughout the Indoor Football League, Wooten brought a championship pedigree to Fishers with two IFL championships and multiple Coach of the Year honors on his résumé. His experience and success across the league have played an important role in shaping the Freight since the franchise's inception.
Joining Wooten's staff in 2027 will be Miller, who brings more than 25 years of indoor and arena football coaching experience to Fishers. Miller has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout his career, including extensive experience as both a head coach and defensive coordinator.
Miller served as Defensive Coordinator for the Vegas Knight Hawks in 2023, leading a defense that finished the season No. 1 in the IFL against the pass. He then took over as Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator of the Massachusetts Pirates in 2024, guiding the Pirates to an appearance in the IFL National Championship Game.
In 2025, Miller joined the San Diego Strike Force as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator, helping San Diego advance to the Western Conference Championship Game. Miller returned to Vegas in 2026, serving as Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach for the Knight Hawks before joining the Freight for the 2027 season.
The addition of Miller gives the Freight another experienced leader alongside Wooten as Fishers prepares for its third season in the IFL. With Wooten remaining at the helm and Miller taking over the defense, the Freight continue to build their coaching staff for the 2027 season.
