After taking the reins in Tucson last season, Rayshaun Kizer is officially back to lead the Sugar Skulls into 2027.
The Tucson Sugar Skulls have announced that Head Coach Rayshaun Kizer will return for the 2027 season, keeping the championship-winning coach at the helm in Tucson.
Kizer took over the Sugar Skulls in 2026, bringing an extensive playing and coaching background to the organization. Known for his defensive expertise, Kizer has built a résumé that includes two championships during his coaching career.
Before arriving in Tucson, Kizer served as Head Coach of the Massachusetts Pirates, where he led the team to an 11-5 record. His coaching career also includes an undefeated championship run with the Omaha Beef.
Prior to becoming a coach, Kizer built an impressive career as a defensive back. He spent time with the New York Jetsbefore playing nine seasons in arena football, establishing himself as one of the top defensive backs in the indoor game.
Kizer's playing career included a record-setting season in which he recorded 16 interceptions, a single-season mark that still stands. That defensive background has remained a major part of his identity as a coach throughout his career.
With a year in Tucson now under his belt, Kizer will return to lead the Sugar Skulls into 2027 as the organization looks to build on the foundation established during his first season at the helm.
