The San Diego Strike Force have secured two key pieces of their coaching staff for the future, signing Head Coach Taylor Genuser and Defensive Coordinator Adam Shackleford to extensions through the 2028 season.
The extensions come after a historic 2026 season for the Strike Force. Under Genuser, San Diego finished the regular season 13-3, setting a franchise record for wins and earning the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference for the first time. The Strike Force also hosted the first home playoff game in franchise history as the organization continued its steady climb among the IFL's top teams. Genuser's work earned him 2026 IFL Coach of the Year honors.
Genuser has played a significant role in the growth of the Strike Force since first joining the organization as offensive coordinator in 2019. He later took over as head coach and has helped build San Diego into a consistent postseason contender. The Strike Force earned their first playoff berth under Genuser in 2024, returned to the postseason in 2025 and followed it with the best regular season in franchise history in 2026.
Shackleford joined Genuser's staff ahead of the 2025 season, bringing more than two decades of indoor football coaching experience to San Diego. Originally joining the organization as Run Game Coordinator and Director of Scouting, his role has continued to expand within the Strike Force football operation.
In 2026, Shackleford served as President of Football Operations, Director of Scouting and Defensive Coordinator, helping oversee a San Diego defense that complemented one of the league's top offenses during the Strike Force's record-setting season.
Shackleford's extensive indoor football résumé and ability to identify and develop talent have made him an important part of the program Genuser has built in San Diego. His experience and relationships throughout the indoor game have helped provide consistency as the Strike Force have continued to grow.
With Genuser and Shackleford now under contract through 2028, the Strike Force have ensured continuity at the top of their football operation as they look to build on the most successful season in franchise history.
After years of steady progress, San Diego has established itself as a contender in the IFL. Now, two of the coaches who helped lead that rise will remain in place to continue building what the Strike Force have started.
