2026 Battlehawks Position Preview: Tight Ends

With training camp coming to a conclusion the 2026 Battlehawks have continued to prepare for what many hope to be a championship season this year. This season, the Battlehawks Tight End room has undergone a makeover as longtime Tight End Jake Sutherland has retired, and the team opted to not retain Missouri Native Chase Allen.

Going into training camp, the Battlehawks currently roster three Tight Ends, with one of them being a familiar face.

2025 Room: Jake Sutherland, Chase Allen

2026 Room: Tyler Neville, Shane Calhoun, James Bostic

One More Go Around:

James Bostic has spent the last two years in camp with the Battlehawks, failing to find a spot on the roster. He’s a 2023 XFL draft pick for St. Louis, and may have his last chance of making a UFL roster this season. Bostic played his college football at Ohio University, and was a “tweener” between Tight End and Wide Receiver. With his versatility the Battlehawks could keep Bostic as a special teams asset, over Shane Calhoun.

New Faces:

Shane Calhoun wowed the UFL player personnel department during the UFL showcase in Orlando with a top-3 40 time for skill players. Calhoun played five seasons in college between ECU and Texas A&M, Calhoun has had some NFL interest between workouts and a rookie mini camp, however has yet to sign a professional contract. He may be a surprise contender for the roster, if he can edge out Bostic.

Tyler Neville is the most established Tight End on the roster despite being a 2025 UDFA. Neville spent time with the Dallas Cowboys during camp before being released during the final cuts. A traditional Tight End, he seems to be the front runner for the TE1 position however in the Battlehawks Air-Raid offense, his impact in the passing attack may be limited.

The Battlehawks will most likely only retain two Tight Ends this season as most teams in the UFL have traditionally done. Final cuts for UFL teams will be March 19th, as teams will trim down their rosters from 64 to 50 in preparation for week one. For St. Louis it appears that Shane Calhoun and James Bostic will most likely be fighting for the TE2 position.
