Anthony Becht Takes Ownership for Fourth Down Decision in Orlando's First Loss

Orlando Storm head coach Anthony Becht didn't hide from responsibility after his team's 25-17 loss to St. Louis dropped them from the ranks of the unbeaten. The coach immediately pointed to his own decision-making as a key factor in the defeat that ended Orlando's perfect start to the season.

"I think it was a critical mistake for me coming out of the half to go for it on fourth down there. I take ownership of that," Becht said in his postgame press conference. "And I put my defense in a bad spot. And, you know, I got to just evaluate myself on that situation. If we don't allow them to score there, man, it's a different ball game."

Second Half Fight Shows Character

Despite falling behind 18-0 at halftime, the Storm mounted a spirited comeback attempt that had Becht praising his team's resilience. The coach emphasized how his players responded to adversity without finger-pointing or panic in the locker room.

"Listen, nobody came in yelling at anybody. Like, you just got to go and play one play at a time. And I felt like we did that," Becht explained. "I mean, we talk about adversity quite a bit with our football team. Really didn't get much of it so far this year."

The Storm fought back from that 18-point deficit and had multiple opportunities to tie or win the game late, showing the kind of character that has defined their 4-1 start to the season.

Special Teams Spark Provides Hope

One bright spot came on special teams, where Orlando blocked a punt to shift momentum in the second half. Becht credited the collective effort and detailed preparation that went into the play.

"Martin does a hell of a job, like the details that go into it, and guys believe in it," Becht said about the blocked punt. "And quite frankly, if they want to get to the next level, guess what they have to do? They got to do really good on special teams."

The coach also praised new acquisition Amani Bledsoe, who made an immediate impact with a tip-drill interception after being acquired in a recent trade.

Orlando Fanbase Continues to Grow

Even in defeat, Becht made sure to acknowledge the growing support from Orlando fans, who stuck around despite the slow start and provided energy throughout the comeback attempt.

"Also, I want to thank the fans for showing up today. It was an incredible crowd. Like, seriously, it was awesome to see. It was fun to watch. Stick with us, man. We're 4-1," Becht told the media. "Just incredible to see the fans grow every single home game. Super thankful for that."

The coach has been actively involved in community outreach, recently attending a Orlando Magic game where he met with team legends Bo Outlaw and Nick Anderson to help promote the Storm.

Looking Ahead to Birmingham

With an 8-day week ahead before facing Birmingham, Becht plans to give his banged-up team two days off to recover. The Storm remain in first place at 4-1 and will look to bounce back against the Stallions in what promises to be another test of their championship aspirations.

"We're still in first place and we got an 8-day week coming up, man, where we can bounce back and play an incredible football game next week," Becht said, maintaining optimism despite the setback.
