The UFL's imprint in the NFL got a little bigger on Tuesday, with the LA Chargers signing WR Gary Jennings to their active roster ahead of their week two matchup. The Chargers have played a bit of roster gymnastics with Jennings, releasing him from the practice squad earlier in the regular season workup to week one, only to bring him back. With WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith being placed on injured reserve, Jennings now replaces him for the time being.
Jennings has been a fixture in spring football since 2023, joining the XFL's St. Louis Battlehawks. He's spent time with both St. Louis and Birmingham (2024) earning a championship with the Stallions in his lone season. Jennings earned 2026 All-UFL honors, as a special teams player which could be the key for him extending his NFL career.
Jennings has also spent time Seahawks, Dolphins, Ravens, Bills, Colts, Raiders, Chiefs, and Panthers in his NFL career which began in 2019. He is one of two Battlehawks currently rostered on an NFL roster from the 2026 signing class, with Sean Fresch rostered on the Broncos practice squad. The Packers waived DB Trey Dean with an injury settlement the day prior.
Jennings could have an opportunity to make his NFL debut this Sunday September 20th, with the Chargers taking on the Las Vegas Raiders at home in SoFi Stadium.
