With the UFL to NFL signing cycle slowing down, spring football teams should be in their full off-season programs when it comes to reevaluating and retooling their rosters for the 2027 season.
With over 75 players from the 2026 signing cycle earning NFL opportunities and almost 20 of them earning roster spots, many UFL players may begin looking to the next phase of their careers when it comes to their football journeys. This offseason has seen several mainstays like Chris Odom, Breeland Speaks, and Kenny Robinson all move on to the next phase of their careers with more surely to follow.
Below are a list of players who have recently taken to social media to announce their retirements so far this year.
WR Fabien Guerra:
Guerra has been around the arena ball circuit for multiple years, dipping his toe in spring leagues like the AAF, CFL, and USFL. Guerra took to social media to announce his intention on ending his playing career after this past season in arena football.
DB Paris Ford:
Ford spent his rookie season with the LA Rams, before joining the New Jersey Generals from 2022 to 2023. Post Merger he joined the IFL’s Mass Pirates before spending 2025 out of football. He took to social media to announce his retirement earlier in the summer.
OL Keaton Sutherland:
Sutherland was a 2019 UDFA that bounced around six NFL teams before joining the Birmingham Stallions in 2025. Sutherland earned an NFL contract with the Lions, before returning to the UFL with the Dallas Renegades. He announced his retirement via social media after the season on his social media.
TE Chase Allen:
Allen joined the St. Louis Battlehawks in 2025, after spending the 2022 and 2023 with the Bears. After going unsigned during the 2026 UFL season, Allen joined his former college head football coach Matt Campbell at Penn State as an assistant coach, ceasing his playing career.
DL Marvin Wilson:
Wilson was a 2021 UDFA with the Browns, who joined the Philadelphia Stars for the 2024 season. Post merger he’d sign with the Birmingham Stallions spending two seasons with the team before his release in March of 2026. He announced his retirement on August 31st, 2026.
TE Matt Seybert:
Seybert spent time with several NFL teams, including a stint in the Spring League, before joining the Pittsburgh Maulers. After two seasons with Pittsburgh, Seybert would be a focal figure in the voided signing of the San Antonio Brahmas who were not allowed to sign the Tight End prior to the 2024 UFL championship game. Seybert would then spend part of 2025 with the Brahmas and Renegades before remaining unsigned in 2026.
