Even with less than a week until all eight UFL teams have to conduct roster cutdowns to signal the end of training camp, the Dallas Renegades made what seemed like could be one of their final moves.
According to the UFL Communication Department's X page, the Renegades have added defensive end Eyabi Okie-Anoma to the roster. Okie-Anoma might be a familiar name to UFL fans, as he played last season for the Houston Roughnecks for one game, where he made two tackles. He has also played professionally for the Edmonton Elks of the CFL in 2024 and Fishers Freight of the IFL last year.
During his college days, Okie-Anoma played for three schools: Alabama, Michigan, and Charlotte. In 2022 with the Wolverines, he had 18 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two pass deflections on the year. His 2023 season with Charlotte was even better with 56 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.
Dallas Renegades add Eyabi Okie-Anoma
The defensive end room for the Renegades just got a lot deeper with Okie-Anoma's addition, and made things interesting with one week of training camp left. There is still some good talent in that position group, including Tashawn Bower, T.J. Franklin, Tramel Walthour, Jah Joyner, and Chantz Williams.
Going into training camp, this was the position with the most questions because Chris Odom wouldn't be back with the team until the next season. Some Renegades fans had wondered how these guys would do with basically a whole new room of defensive ends in position.
Dallas still has some great edge rushers it will lean on to add pressure to the quarterback. Willie Taylor and Taco Charlton should be able to hold their own and still be the top pass rushers while the others focus more on stopping the run.
Okie-Anoma's late arrival adds a little drama to close out Renegades training camp with a new face battling for a job. While he faces an uphill battle, it's anyone's guess who makes the final cut at defensive end.
