Some reinforcements on defense are coming for the DC Defenders as they look to finish the 2026 UFL campaign strong.
According to the UFL Communications Department's X page, the Defenders have signed linebacker Kyron Johnson. It was also reported that they had signed cornerback Ameer Speed, but that is incorrect and he actually signed with the Houston Gamblers.
Johnson played three seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans, racking up eight tackles in the 2022 season with the Eagles.
DC Defenders are getting some help on defense for the second half of the year
The Defenders are riding high heading into the second half of the season, as they are on the league's longest winning streak, at four. Their offense has been rolling in three of the last four games, scoring over 40 points, but not enough love is being given to the defense.
Johnson will only help the unit's depth while they are on the field. He will be interesting as he hasn't been on a roster since 2024.
DC could use some help in the secondary after allowing 313 yards passing last week in the win over the Birmingham Stallions in Week 4, but elected to focus more at linebacker. Johnson will most likely be a backup, but he might be able to have a bigger role as he learns the scheme and playbook.
There's no question the Defenders are the best team in the UFL right now and have a chance to host the United Bowl from their own stadium.
