Renegades/Stampede Quarterback Austin Reed signs with Baltimore Ravens amid several injuries at Quarterback

While the NFL season is in full swing, and the UFL prepares for their 2027 draft, one spring football standout has received an opportunity to return to his former team as they prepare for their Thursday night matchup. After being released by the Baltimore Ravens during final cuts of training camp, former Dallas Renegades Quarterback, (now Stampede) has resigned with the Ravens on their practice squad.

Currently the Renegades are dealing with a plethora of injuries at the quarterback position, with Lamar Jackson going on injured reserve and back up Tyler Huntley also ruled out. The Ravens were forced to use UDFA rookie Joe Fagnano, who beat out Reed for a roster spot, however Fagnano is also dealing with an injury and is currently listed as questionable.

Reed's 2026 has been a series of "highs" and "lows" as he prepares for Thursday. After spending 2024 with the Chicago Bears on their practice squad, Reed was released in 2025 joining the UFL's Dallas Renegades for the 2026 spring season. Reed would become the league's most prolific passer through the first three weeks of the season, however, would lose six straight games as the Renegades would fail to earn a playoff berth. While Reed would finish the 2026 UFL season throwing for 1923 yards, and a league record 21 passing touchdowns, the former WKU QB would miss out on a possible MVP honor, as well as a chance at a UFL championship.

Reed now rejoins Declan Doyle who now serves as the Ravens Offensive Coordinator, after the pair spent time in Chicago together. With the Ravens dealing with a series of injuries, it will put Reed's status for the 2027 UFL season in question. Not only does Reed have an opportunity to start, he'll also be almost guaranteed to be signed to the Ravens active roster at one point during the season, especially if the Ravens fail to acquire a new quarterback along with the status of Fagnano and Huntley.

The Stampede (then Renegades) have also already signed a new quarterback prior to Reed's signing in Baylor Quarterback Sawyer Robertson who could compete with Luke Lehnen for a chance at being the starter. The "Stampede/Renegades" opted to finish the season with only two quarterbacks after the team traded Luis Perez to the Battlehawks.
