Stallions QB Taylor Elgersma ends UFL journey, Signs with Winnipeg Blue Bombers

After a trip to the NFL combine, a quarterback issue, and a work visa issue Taylor Elgersma's UFL journey has come to an end. Per the various news outlets, including the CFL itself, Taylor Elgersma will be joining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the 2026 season.

Elgersma's time in the UFL has been extremely turbulent, with him arriving late to training camp due to him throwing at the NFL combine. After the Stallions signed, the recently released Donovan Smith questions began to arise about his visa-status for the upcoming season. Prior to the Stallions week one game, Elgersma was ineligible to play, leaving him in limbo for the foreseeable future.

Despite Stallions Head Coach A.J. McCarron calling U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, the UFL was unable to succeed in allowing Elgersma to play this season in the UFL. Birmingham will now continue into the season with Matt Corral as their starter, along with Donovan Smith, and Michael Hiers as his backups.

For Elgersma he joins a Blue Bombers team that drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2025 CFL Draft. He'll join a QB room that is led by incumbent Zach Collaros, along with backups Terry Wilson and Bryce Perkins. CFL training camp is set to open May 10th, with the regular season beginning June 4th.
