Stallions Turn to Dorian Thompson-Robinson to Ignite Punchless Offense

Birmingham Stallions head coach A.J. McCarron made reference to the possibility during his appearance in front of the assembled media following his team’s 16-0 loss to the Orlando Storm. “Everything’s on the table,” McCarron responded when asked about whether he would consider changes in play calling responsibilities. Most telling, however, was the added caveat. Trades.

McCARRON MEANT BUSINESS, STALLIONS TRADE QB MATT CORRAL, DE AMANI BLEDSOE TO ORLANDO FOR QB DORIAN THOMPSON-ROBINSON IN TWO FOR ONE SWAP

The move was one of desperation for Birmingham. The Stallions have not scored in the last seventy plus game minutes. Corral was never able to perform consistently, and as a result the Stallions struggled mightily not only just moving the football, but especially finding the end zone. Their 16.3 points per game average rank them last in that category.

At 1-3, Birmingham felt it necessary to do what it had to do to stop the bleeding. Giving up two starters in exchange for the backup quarterback who happened to play for the team that shut you out the day before speaks to the degree of urgency the Stallions face going forward.

TREMENDOUS UPSIDE FOR THOMPSON-ROBINSON

At UCLA, Thompson-Robinson passed for 10,695 yards over five seasons while rushing for 1,827. The 26-year old dual threat signal caller could provide the spark needed to ignite what has been an anemic offensive performance through four games by Birmingham.

Thompson-Robinson was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft as the 140th pick. Over two seasons in Cleveland, he made five total starts but his TD/Interception ratio {10 INTs to just 1 TD] has to be a cause of concern for Birmingham.

DC DEFENDERS UP NEXT FOR BIRMINGHAM IN WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY AN ELIMINATION GAME FOR THE STALLIONS

Birmingham entertains red hot DC Friday night at Protective Stadium. The Defenders, winners of three straight, will arrive in Birmingham only one game back of unbeaten and league leading Orlando. The game will be televised by FOX. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
