Heading into Week 10 of the 2026 UFL season, the Orlando Storm (7-2) and DC Defenders (5-4) find themselves in a unique position. Last week, both teams clinched playoff spots for the 2026 UFL postseason, but with the Storm defeating the Defenders in Week 9, they clinched a home playoff game in the first round. Despite losing to the Storm, the Defenders backed into a playoff spot via tiebreakers. DC needs to prove that they can win without having Jordan Ta'amu as their starting quarterback.

For the Orlando Storm, the biggest victory they can have this week is to leave Audi Field without any significant injuries. Whether the Storm wins or loses, they will host their first playoff game next week, and most likely it will be the third consecutive game against the Defenders. Therefore, the Storm needs to use this as an opportunity to evaluate their depth players, especially at quarterback, including Hank Bachmeier and Matt Corral, for future consideration, such as stepping in for Jack Plummer or for the 2027 UFL season. On the other hand, the DC Defenders have clinched a playoff spot, which gives them a chance to defend their UFL championship from 2025. However, the Defenders are in the middle of a losing streak, and they have not proven that they can win without Ta'amu, who is out for the rest of the season. The Defenders signed former Michigan Panthers quarterback E.J. Perry this week, and the Defenders also need to see how well Jason Bean can operate in the Defenders' system on offense. To win this game, the Defenders will need to manage the game with their strong running game and set their defense up for success.

Orlando Storm Key to Victory #1: Effectively Manage the Quarterback Situation

The most critical part of Anthony Becht's game plan this week is how he will handle his quarterback situation. Not playing Jack Plummer to protect him from injury is a solid plan, but it may also disrupt the Storm's offense. Therefore, it would be wise for Plummer to start the game and play a series or two to maintain his sharpness heading into a two-week postseason that does not offer time to struggle on offense. After that, the Storm needs to utilize backup quarterback Hank Bachmeier and see whether he can effectively lead the Orlando offense. It should be expected that Bachmeier will struggle due to not having any live game action this season so far. If Bachmeier does not effectively find a rhythm with the Storm offense, then Becht should give Matt Corral a chance to lead the offense. In addition, the Storm needs to show they can still play solid football without Plummer;; otherwise, Plummer may find himself directly targeted by opposing defenses to get him out of a game during the biggest games of the season.

Orlando Storm Key to Victory #2: Control the Game Tempo on Offense

To set Bachmeier and Corral up for success, the Storm need to be ready to lean hard on their running game. Similar to the quarterback position, the Storm need to work to avoid putting running back Jashaun Corbin at risk, and that can be achieved by rotating Corbin with Elijah Dotson. Ideally, Dotson will get the bulk of the workload, but regardless of who is playing running back, the Storm need to use their running game to control the tempo of the game. In Week 9, missed opportunities by the Storm kept the DC Defenders in the game until the 4th quarter. That is a recipe for being upset in the post-season, and to prevent those errors, the Storm need to keep the clock running and shorten the game. In addition, the Storm needs to avoid 3-and-out drives, and the running game will keep the Storm offense in manageable situations, allowing their quarterbacks to execute in the passing game and keep the chains moving.

Orlando Storm Key to Victory #3: Contain the Defenders Quarterback

While the Orlando Storm have had dominant performances from their defensive line this season, Keshawn Banks and his fellow pass rushers do not have the sack numbers to match the intensity with which they have played this season. What has limited their ability to sack opposing quarterbacks is their failure to keep those quarterbacks contained; as a result, teams have been able to extend plays and keep the ball out of the Storm offense's hands. No matter who the Defenders end up playing at quarterback, the Storm need to keep the DC signal callers in the pocket and force them to play within the structure of their offense. To accomplish that goal, the Storm's defensive line needs to work more effectively together to close up the escape routes for the Defenders' quarterbacks. That means the Storm's defensive ends need to establish and maintain control on the edge of the pocket, and the interior defensive line, including Isaiah Buggs, needs to get a push in the middle of the DC pass protection. Not only will this defensive adjustment give the Storm a solid chance to defeat the Defenders for a second consecutive time, but it will also set the Storm up for a more successful run in the postseason.

Orlando Storm Key to Victory #4: Plan Ahead for the Goal of Post-Season Readiness

The perfect outcome for the Orlando Storm this week is to leave this game with zero injuries that will impact their run in the postseason. In addition, they will have a clear idea of how well Bachmeier and Corral fit into their overall game plan going forward. If the Storm do happen to win this game on the field and clinch an 8-2 record, they will have done so with a strong performance from their running game and improved play by their defensive front seven. This game involves factors that will shape their run to a championship during their first season in Orlando. Those factors include the high probability that they will be facing the Defenders again next week. In addition, if the Storm earn a trip to the UFL championship game, they will need to return to Audi Field and get a win, so doing so this week could set a precedent for success while playing in DC.

Game Prediction: Orlando Storm 23, DC Defenders 21
