During Week 7 of the 2026 UFL season, the Orlando Storm were able to get enough traction to stop sliding down the standings with a 24-23 comeback win against the Houston Gamblers. While the Storm's performance was not particularly impressive against a desperate Gamblers team, Orlando did enough to pick up their fifth win of the season. However, the Storm had to fight and claw to clinch a win in Houston, and in Week 8, they have to get ready quickly for a critical matchup against the Dallas Renegades.
A short week of preparation means the Storm will need to invest much of their players' time in ensuring they are as healthy as possible. The Storm need to be at their best this week, despite the quick turnaround, because with a win against a struggling Dallas Renegades team riding a 4-game losing streak, Orlando will be the UFL team to clinch a playoff berth for the 2026 post-season. After this week, the Storm will have back-to-back games against the DC Defenders to finish the season, and if Orlando wins this week, they can potentially clinch a home playoff game with a win over DC.
That sets the stage for a big Week 8 matchup between the Orlando Storm (5-2) and the Dallas Renegades (3-4) at a neutral-site game at Fort Hood, with immediate playoff implications.

Must Win Game for the Orlando Storm?
Over the past few weeks, the Orlando Storm have struggled offensively. However, the Storm boasts the UFL's top defense, so if the offense avoids penalties and turnovers, they have a strong chance to win each week. This week, the Storm face a Renegades team that is spiraling after four straight losses. Therefore, if the Storm are legitimate championship contenders this season, they must win this game against the Renegades to secure a playoff berth. Part of this urgency stems from facing the DC Defenders in back-to-back games to finish the regular season. While the Storm have put together a 5-win season so far, those victories have mainly come against struggling teams rather than top opponents. If the Storm lose this week, they risk dropping both games to the Defenders, which would eliminate them from playoff contention and leave them with a disappointing 5-5 record.
Re-Establish the Running Game
An important step towards the Storm regaining the high level of efficiency that defined Orlando's offense during the first four weeks of the season is re-establishing its running game. This week, against the Houston Gamblers, the Storm managed only 55 rushing yards, forcing Orlando quarterback Jack Plummer to operate under pressure from the Gamblers' front seven. Up to this point in the season, when the Storm wins the turnover battle, they win; when they lose, they lose. Without a strong running game, the Storm must rely more on its passing attack. Traditionally, teams that lean heavily on passing have struggled to win championships in recent Spring football history. For the Storm and Orlando head coach Anthony Becht, excelling in the UFL against the top teams in the standings will require consistently grinding out first downs and minimizing risky decisions to offset their uneven production.
Defense Wins Championships
In contrast, the Orlando Storm's defense has avoided the streaky play that has affected the offense. The Storm rank first in the league, allowing only 16.2 points/game. The front seven have terrorized opposing offenses, causing turnovers and setting up the offense for success. This week, Orlando defensive lineman Keshawn Banks must dominate against a Renegades offensive line that has struggled to protect Dallas quarterback Austin Reed. If the Storm can consistently pressure Reed, their defense will have a strong chance to force turnovers. Forcing mistakes will be key to a Storm victory. That win would let the Storm regroup and focus on playing their best football heading into the postseason.
