The 1-4 Houston Roughnecks are looking to bounce back from a tough loss to the Birmingham Stallions. Ahead of their Week 6 matchup versus the St. Louis Battlehawks, they made a series of moves to bring players back from injury and the inactive list, and bring some new talent into the fold as well.

Starting at QB, it looks like Jarrett Guarantano is back from the rib injury he suffered in Week 3, and while it’s likely Reid Sinnett will hold the starting job, having more options in this room is a good thing. Nolan Henderson was moved down to the inactive roster, and Kenji Bahar will be a gameday inactive as well.

At the skill positions, they’re bringing up some new targets like WR Reggie Robertson Jr. and TE Clint Sigg Jr, and signed a new TE A.J. Lewis, out of Alabama State. Lewis is a 6’4″ 265 lb blocking TE, but flashed some ability as a reciever in 2023 with 4 receptions for 50 yards. He’ll help stabilize that position group with starter Woody Brandom moving to injured reserve.

There’s also been movement in the secondary as well, with Safety Jamri Brown moving to the active roster as Ja’Von Hicks was waived.

Some of these moves are more on the back end of the roster and should only affect special teams and depth ahead of this week, but the one thing to look at here is Guarantano’s status.

Sinnett has been putting up efficient play statistically, but if the team is looking to inject some life into this offense when things stall, bringing in their Week One starter might be the move. Some midseason reshuffling is to be expected when the team is in straits like this, and if it helps them spark the offense, I’m all for it.
