While the Orlando Storm broke a two-game losing streak with their Week 7 win over the Houston Gamblers, they are still battling attrition. This season, the Storm have fielded the league's top defense but have suffered several key injuries. Early on, they lost inside linebacker Andrew Parker Jr., who had become a defensive playmaker. Additionally, defensive tackle Willie Yarbury is on injured reserve, and outside linebacker Grayson Murphy retired mid-season. Despite injuries piling up on the defensive side of the ball for Orlando, the defense has still maintained its foundation. As the season winds down and playoffs approach, Orlando is being proactive in filling gaps in its depth chart with quality players. This approach to advance planning has resulted in the latest signing: linebacker Kana'i Mauga, who joins the Storm's defense, as announced by the UFL.

Kana'i Mauga comes to the UFL after spending four seasons in the NFL. Mauga started his NFL career with the Denver Broncos in 2022, the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 and 2024, and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. While playing for the Raiders, Mauga played in 17 games and recorded 3 solo tackles and 3 assists. Before starting his professional football career, Mauga played in 43 games from 2018 to 2021 at the University of Southern California. During his time with the Trojans, Mauga registered 107 solo tackles, 100 assists, 5.0 quarterback sacks, and 3 interceptions. Mauga brings elite athleticism and explosiveness to the Storm, pairing a relentless motor with proven football IQ. His NFL experience positions him to make an immediate impact in Orlando. Given his inconsistent tackling in space and pass coverage, Mauga fits best as an inside linebacker for the Storm.
