Retirements Continue as Cut Down Day Approaches

As the 2026 UFL season now approaches, several players have continued to announce their retirements while in UFL training camp. With final cuts approaching, many players have taken themselves "out of the running" by notifying the league that they are moving on to the next phase in their careers.

Lawerence Toafili Running Back Orlando Storm

Toafili may have been a longshot to make the Storm roster, however the running back was signed upon the release of Jashaun Corbin. Toafili spent several weeks with the storm after coming out of Florida State in 2025. He spent several weeks last season with the New York Jets on their practice squad. The league announced his retirement on February 28th after 8 days with the team.

Lorenze Mauldin EDGE Louisville Kings

With his ties to Louisville, Mauldin was an exciting signee to the team. Mauldin had an already accomplished football career from his days in the NFL with the Jets, including earning multiple awards in the CFL. At 33 years old Mualdin had announced his retirement via his social media along with the UFL announcing it via their waiver wire on March 4th.

Teton Saltes Offensive Lineman Orlando Storm

Saltes has been a spring football regular since 2022 going back to his time with the USFL's Michigan Panthers. The New Mexico alum's career has spanned with the New York Jets, Michigan Panthers, Arlington Renegades, and with the Battlehawks the last two seasons. Saltes was the #1 overall pick in the UFL open draft this past January and has dealt with injuries throughout his professional career. Saltes' retirement was announced on March 13th.

Jake Camarda Punter Columbus Aviators

A bit of a surprising move Camarda was a special teams prospect who may have been an easy bounce back to the NFL. Camarda has bounced around several NFL teams in his career, and was transferred to the retirement list on March 16th. The Aviators have yet to sign a replacement specialist at this time.

Zach Banner Offensive Lineman Houston Roughnecks

Banner had not been drafted by a UFL team in January's draft and actually announced his retirement in the middle of February. Banner dealt with injuries in the tail end of his NFL career (2022), coming back to the game with the Roughnecks this past season. He recently had a workout with the Bears in September however was unsigned. Banner announced his retirement via social media.

With UFL cut day rapidly approaching more UFL players will likely retire. Since the end of training camp last season 52 UFL players have officially announced their retirement via the waiver wire, or their own social media accounts.
