The 2026 UFL Playoffs kickoff on Sunday July7th at 3 pm in Daytona Beach, Florida, in the third of three straight games between the Orlando Storm (8-2) and the DC Defenders (5-5). Orlando enters the playoffs as the #1 seed in the UFL, and they have beaten the DC Defenders in back-to-back games to end the 2026 regular season. DC is coming to Daytona Beach, hoping to rekindle the fire that led them to a UFL championship in 2025; however, this time they have to do it without Jordan Ta'amu as their starting quarterback. For the Orlando Storm, this game is all about finishing what they started during their first year in the UFL. Storm head coach Anthony Becht has a 0-2 record for postseason games in the UFL, and this is his best chance to pick up his first playoff win. Also, Orlando Storm quarterback Jack Plummer has put together a great season in 2026, with 2,188 passing yards and 17 touchdowns while throwing only 1 interception. Those numbers put Plummer at the top of the list for being the MVP of the UFL this season, but regular-season stats and an MVP award are meaningless if Plummer and the Storm cannot finish the season as UFL champions. Despite losing quarterback Jordan Ta'amu and a 4-game losing streak, the Defenders are still the defending UFL champions. If DC can find a way to steal a win from the Storm at Daytona Beach, then they will have an opportunity to have home-field advantage in the UFL championship game. To pull off this upset, the Defenders will need a solid effort from a makeshift quarterback room featuring Jason Bean, Spencer Sanders, and recently signed E.J. Perry. The Defenders' best chance to win is to lean on their strong running game, especially the wide zone run concepts that Orlando's defense has struggled to stop, and a big game from their aggressive defense.

Orlando Storm Key to Victory #1: Contain the Defenders Dual-Threat Quarterbacks
The Orlando Storm defense is strong inside the box, and their secondary is great at keeping the game in front of them, forcing teams to put together longer drives to score. However, over the last two games, the Storm have struggled against the DC Defenders' jet sweep and wide zone plays and have struggled to contain the DC quarterbacks in the pocket. All signs point to Jason Bean being the starting quarterback for the Defenders in this game, which means the Storm will need to make containing Bean a point of emphasis in this game.
The biggest threat to the Storm defense is extended plays that expose seams in the Orlando defense. Allowing the Defenders' quarterbacks to get out of the pocket gives DC more time to get open against Orlando. In addition, the Defenders' quarterbacks are effective runners, and if the Storm cannot contain the DC quarterbacks, Bean and Smith could continue to pick up first downs, which would neutralize the Storm's efficient offensive attack.
Orlando Storm Key to Victory #2: Bait the DC Quarterbacks into Mistakes and Turnovers
If the Storm defense can keep the DC quarterbacks contained in the pocket, they can use coverage variations to bait them into committing turnovers. Previously, Bean and Smith have shown that they are susceptible to making rushed decisions and putting the ball at risk. In the first two games between the Storm and the Defenders, Orlando took advantage of those poor decisions, allowing the Storm to win both. When the Storm wins the turnover battle by 2 or more takeaways, they win, and they are undefeated when winning the turnover margin by +2 or more. On the other hand, if the Storm cannot force turnovers or end up turning the ball over themselves, their chances of beating the Defenders a third straight time decrease dramatically. Therefore, it is important for the Storm to play a disciplined game on both sides of the ball, and they must make the Defenders' offense pay for any mistakes they make in this game.
Orlando Storm Key to Victory #3: Protect Jack Plummer and Attack the Seams
The decision that will likely make or break the Storm's opportunity to win a championship this season is Anthony Becht's unwillingness to offer playing time to backup quarterbacks Hank Bachmeier or Matt Corral. Therefore, it is hard to predict how well the Storm offense will execute if Plummer happens to get hurt against an aggressive DC defense. That means the Storm needs to make sure that protecting Plummer is a priority. However, while protecting Plummer, the Storm need to use their passing game to make the Defenders pay for bringing heavy pressure with multiple blitz schemes. During the first two games, the Storm have gashed the Defenders' defense by implementing a bevy of crossing routes using wide receiver Chris Rowland. On the other hand, the Defenders have seen these crossing route concepts for two straight games, and now the Storm need to make sure they have a counter-punch ready to make the Defenders pay for jumping Rowland and those crossing routes.
Orlando Storm Key to Victory #4: Maintain Run-Pass Balance on Offense
In addition to having a sound game plan to use the passing game to beat the DC defense, the Storm will need to ensure they continue to run the ball with Jashaun Corbin. When the Storm can run the ball effectively, the Orlando offense tends to play its most efficient football. Also, grinding out long drives will benefit the Storm defense by keeping the Defenders' offense off the field. Running the ball will be especially important in the red zone, which is an area of the field where the Orlando Storm have struggled to be consistent throughout the season. If the Storm are forced to rely on field goals during their trips to the red zone, then they could find themselves chasing a DC offense that has the ability to also put together long drives to shorten the game. The ability to move the ball effectively with a balanced offensive attack is key to helping Becht secure his first postseason victory as a head coach.
Game Prediction: Orlando Storm 30, DC Defenders 26
