When Mike Repole took over the UFL, several major shakeups were set to take place led by a New York Billionaire who is chomping at the bit to mold a spring football league. One of those changes was taking a "limping" Memphis Showboats franchise, and transitioning them to the Louisville Kings, a new market that hasn't had the opportunity to see a spring football franchise, throughout the numerous leagues that have existed.
However, despite the unknowns the city of Louisville has delivered and with their season in flux going into week 10, the franchise has just completed its "homestand" of five games with extremely promising results. The Kings took over a Showboats franchise that saw 34,466 attendees in 2024, and 19,958 attendees in 2025. Coupled with records of 2-8 in back-to-back seasons, the franchise was failing both on and off the field.
Come 2026, under a rebranded franchise, and plenty of hope in new market, the team and the city showed out, giving great hope for the UFL moving into 2027. The Kings amassed 55,5975 attendees in their first season, which surpassed the combined Memphis attendance from the previous two years, while also prompting a nearly 35,000 improvement in the similar markets.
The Kings may have hit all the right "levers" in building their team. Between the surplus of talent, the team tapped a Louisville native and "legend" in Chris Redman with area ties that created enough buzz to get the local market excited. While Redman had definitely brought a fair amount buzz the team has also produced on the field.
In addition to Redman's local ties, the team also rosters several players with ties to both Kentucky, and Tennessee bringing excitement to the market from several players who played college football in the area. With the UFL making a concentrated effort in the market, an offseason of advertising, in addition to several players possibly making the jump to the NFL, could continue to grow the Kings "brand".
After defeating the Dallas Renegades (and eliminating them), the Kings now control their destiny as they move into week 10 against the Columbus Aviators in hopes of earning a playoff berth in their first season in franchise history. If Louisville is able to bring a championship in their first season, the franchise may begin to set the standard in Repole's new rebranded United Football League.
